Many tourists miss this national treasure a few kilometres south On Stare Mesto. On a cliff high above the River Vltava south of the city centre stands the Vyšehrad castle with the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul and the country’s main cemetery where many famous Czech people are buried, among them Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana,Karel Čapek, and Alphonse Mucha. It also contains Prague’s oldest surviving building Rotunda of St Martin from the 11th century.
Here you find one of Prague’s biggest and most popular Beer gardens called Hospudka Na Hradbach in the historic park , just inside the old gate and up the hill. With great views of the sun setting over the city this is the place to cool down with a Gambrinus, Kozel, or Pilsner Urquell with some grilled klobasa (sausage).
How to get there: Go to the Metro stop Vyšehrad, then ten minutes walk.
