The Timberland Lodge in the Mount Hood National Forest, is a popular tourist attraction, drawing more than a million visitors annually on the Mount Hood in Oregon. Access the hotel through the Mount Hood Scenic Byway.
The Timberline Lodge served as the hotel exterior of “The Overlook Hotel” in Stanley Kubrick’s psychological horror film the Shining from 1980. The interior shots in the film are not from the Timberline Lodge’s interior. They were filmed in the Elstree Studios in England where also the scenes with the hedge maze. The hotel is built of large timbers and local stone with carved decorative elements throughout the building, very different from the interior in the film The Shining.
